It’s sad to say out loud but summer is winding down to a close. And with the loss of summer, comes the loss of freshly grilled meals outside.
For one last hurrah before we cover up the grill and store away our giant grilling utensils, I’m sharing this yummy grilled honey bbq chicken recipe.
My husband is a huge fan of the Chili’s honey chipotle chicken tenders on their menu. Every time we go there, which is shamefully almost weekly, he always gets the same thing.
So knowing how much of a fan he is of chicken glazed in a sticky honey bbq sauce, trying similar recipes is always welcomed in our household. This recipe does call for a bit of hot sauce, hence the red tint, but it’s not anywhere near as spicy as Chili’s honey chipotle.
This honey bbq chicken is a lot more sweet than spicy so it’s very kid friendly. In fact you could even leave the hot sauce out all together if you prefer.
I’ll be honest, this recipe won’t overwhelm your senses. It’s just a nice light layer of flavor to give boring chicken a bit of pizzazz.
If you’re looking for something much closer to the Chili’s version, try my honey chipotle chicken strips. Those have a bit more of a kick to them!
Ingredients:
- 1 cup barbecue sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray's)
- 1/2 cup honey
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Directions:
- In a small sauce pan, simmer all of the ingredients together until sauce thickens. Set aside a small amount for dipping if desired.
- Grill your chicken breasts as you normally would, mopping sauce on both sides as it cooks.
