The husband and I go round and round about pasta and sauce in our house. I’m half Italian and have grown up surrounded by the stuff. He, on the other hand, didn’t so he’s not fond of it like I am.
So getting him to eat even a basic plate of spaghetti for an easy dinner at home is a battle for me. He just complains the entire time. So over the years I’ve learned that I have to add some sort of meat element to the pasta in order for him to be OK with it.
That’s exactly how this Smoked Sausage and Ravioli Skillet came to be. I was craving some cheese ravioli and decided to add some smoked sausage to tame my meat eating husband. And luckily, he loved it!
He raved about it all through dinner and even ate the leftovers the next evening. I was so thrilled to come up with something he liked and that was so simple and quick to make. Plus it’s easy cleanup since one pan is all you need for this recipe.
I used mini bite sized frozen ravioli for my version but this would easily work with full size ravioli as well. I also opted for cheese in my ravioli but you could always use meat ones instead.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 medium onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 12 oz smoked sausage, cut into 1/2 inch slices
- 24 oz pasta sauce
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasonings
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 24 oz frozen mini cheese ravioli
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, optional
Directions:
- Pour the olive oil in a large skillet and cook the onions over medium for about 3 minutes. Add the sausage to the onions and cook until the sausage is browned on both sides.
- Add the pasta sauce, Italian seasonings and Parmesan cheese. Mix until well combined.
- Add the frozen raviolis and water, mix well. Cover with a lid and reduce heat to low. Simmer for 15 - 20 minutes until the ravioli is cooked thru.
- Top with shredded mozzarella if desired.
