The recipe I am about to share with you is for one of my most requested desserts. For every party or picnic, people are always asking me to bring this goodie with me. And at the end of the party, the bowl is practically licked clean!
This dessert is not exactly elegant, actually it’s basically slop in a bowl. But yummy, delicious slop that is!
What I’m talking about is a brownie pudding surprise! It combines three of the best things; brownies, chocolate pudding and Cool Whip. Enough said!
The best part is that it couldn’t be any easier. You basically bake a brownie and let it cool first. Then break apart that brownie and layer it with pudding and whipped cream.
I try to make mine the night before a get together so everything comes together nicely. The pudding and Cool Whip make the brownie pieces so moist that they just about crumble and melt in your mouth.
Ingredients:
- 1 Boxed Brownie Mix
- 1 Large Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix
- 1 Large Container of Cool Whip
- Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips For Garnish
Directions:
- Bake the brownies according to the package directions. Let brownies cool completely before assembling the final dessert.
- Make the pudding according to the package directions and refrigerate until your brownies cool completely.
- Cut or tear apart the brownies into smaller 1" - 2" chunks.
- In a large bowl, put a layer of brownie pieces on the bottom. Leave space between the brownie pieces so they can be surrounded by the pudding layer.
- Follow with a layer of chocolate pudding, then a layer of cool whip.
- Continue alternating the three layers ending with a layer of cool whip.
- If you want, garnish the top with chocolate chips.
If you’d like your guests to see the actual layers of this dessert you can use a clear bowl also. The bowl pictured above is a double batch and I didn’t have a clear bowl large enough for our crowd of chocolate lovers.
Although the dessert may not look or sound like much, make no mistake…it tastes amazing! The pudding keeps the brownies nice and moist and combines so well with the creamy pudding and cool whip.
Give this recipe a try, it’s so easy and sure to be a crowd pleaser!

How many does one batch serve?
Amanda says
Debra, I would say a single batch serves around 12 to 15 people. My husband can devour a huge pile of it, so it really depends on your guests. Once they taste it, it may not go far!

Tasted this at a church potluck. Huge bowl was wiped clean. This lady used Heath Toffee Bits instead of choc. chips. Just added a little crunch that was wonderful.

Hi! I had this over the weekend and it was delicious!!! I was wondering how long it would stay good in the fridge? Thanks!

Hi Ally, so glad you liked it! I’d say you’re safe to still eat it for about three days in the fridge. If it starts to separate or look funky, don’t eat it anymore.
