When did carry-out pizza get so expensive all of a sudden? By the time you add a few toppings, you end up with a $30 pizza bill. Crazy!
My husband and I have totally different pizza tastes to boot. He likes nothing but meat on his and I prefer veggies. So we end of having to order two separate pizzas which gets even pricier.
So once in a while I like to just make homemade french bread pizza at home. You can easily make these two loaded french bread pizzas for well under $15! And they are so fast to assemble so they make an easy weeknight meal.
I use a simple loaf of Italian bread from the grocery store bakery section for my pizzas. You can get one at Walmart for around $1. Add some pizza sauce, cheese and toppings. Instant deliciousness!
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf Italian bakery bread
- 1 jar pizza sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese
- toppings of your choice
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- With a serrated knife, cut your Italian bread in half lengthwise so you end up with a long top and bottom piece.
- Place both pieces on a baking sheet with the cut side up. Spread pizza sauce generously on both.
- Add your cheese and toppings, piling them as high as you please. I use tomatoes, black olives, pepperoni and bacon on my half. On my husband's half is pepperoni, bacon and sweet Italian sausage.
- Cook for 15 - 20 minutes or until cheese gets as brown as you'd like.
