This is the time of year when everything seems to be all about pumpkin and apple flavors. One of my all time favorite apple desserts for fall is apple crisp simply because it takes way less effort and time than an apple pie.
For the first time, I tried making apple crisp in the crockpot instead of the oven. The flavors turned out exactly the same, however the crumble part stays pretty moist. The crockpot cooks the apples perfectly and evenly.
Ingredients:
- 6 apples, peeled and sliced (I used 3 Granny Smith and 3 Fuji)
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup oats
- 1 and 1/2 cups flour
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Directions:
- Spray your crockpot insert with non-stick cooking spray. Put the sliced apples inside.
- In a mixing bowl combine the oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg.
- Melt butter and add it to your oat mixture. Stir to combine.
- Pour mixture evenly over apples.
- Cover and cook on low for 4 - 6 hours or until apples are cooked to your liking. I like mine to still have shape but be very soft so I cooked mine for about 5 hours.
