The Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette ($54) is a collection of 12 matte neutral eyeshadows. Every color in the palette is brand new, never seen before shades.
Let’s start with the obvious, the gorgeous packaging! Isn’t it just stunning? It’s a plastic gold case but the lid top makes it look like a high end metal compact.
When you open it up, you’ll find a very large mirror on the inside lid. It has a strong magnetic closure which makes opening it up so easy.
The palette also includes a mini double ended eyeshadow brush. One end is short and stubby, great for smudging underneath the lower lash line. The other end is a flat shader brush.
I’m a big fan of both of the previous Urban Decay Naked Basics eyeshadow palettes. I don’t use the Naked 2 Basics palette as often but the original Naked Basics palette is still a daily staple of mine.
Naturally, I was super excited when this Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette was first announced. Now that I have it, I’m shocked to say that I’m a bit disappointed in it.
I have zero complaints about the texture of the shadows. They aren’t necessarily “creamy” mattes but they aren’t dry, chalky or overly dusty either.
However, I’m disappointed in how similar a lot of the colors are to each other. It just leaves me craving a little bit more variety in this palette.
The gray (Magnet) and black (Blackjack) eyeshadow colors are the most disappointing. They both can be a bit patchy and are way lighter in pigmentation than I expected.
Will I keep it? Absolutely. I’ll still get tons of use out of this palette because I’m not an extreme eyeshadow wearer. I think it’s a nice palette for everyday neutral looks, especially if you like mattes.
