New in drugstores is the Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balms ($9) available in over one dozen colors. The color of the lip balms themselves are only indicated by the color of the caps so it was hard to choose which colors to try. I chose two of the pink shades, Rose Twist (#225) and Berry Twist (#230).
As you may already notice, these Covergirl jumbo gloss balms look identical to the Tarte LipSurgence lip tints. They are in the same jumbo crayon shape with the product winding up for more, no sharpening required. These jumbo gloss balms do not have a scent though like the Tarte ones do, they smell like a traditional lipstick.
Berry Twist is a more vibrant pink color while Rose Twist is a lighter mauve pink shade. Both of these colors are cream shades with no sparkle or glitter, which I prefer. I don’t think any of the colors in this Covergirl collection have sparkle but I’m not 100% sure of that.
I’m pleased with the pigmentation of both of these lip balm shades. They’re soft enough to easily glide on the lips but not quite as soft as a lipstick. One swipe gives a nice hint of color but you can build it up for more coverage. Wear time is average just like a regular lipstick. It easily wears off with eating and drinking and will need reapplied often throughout the day.
For being called a gloss balm, the glossiness of these is a bit disappointing. They give your lips a bit of shine but not nearly what I expected. I don’t think these gloss balms give any more shine than a lipstick does. I do think the Tarte LipSurgence lippies give a bit more shine to the lips than these do. They do feel silky smooth on the lips though without drying them out.
If you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the Tarte option, these are a way better value for the cost since the Tarte versions cost $24 each! Do you think you’ll be trying out the Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm?
