I came across this little tube in a recent Wet N Wild display at Walgreens. There were only three colors of these Mega Cushion Soft Matte Lip Creams ($4.99) in the line. I picked up Melon It Like It Is just out of curiosity.
As you can see, it has squeezy tube packaging with a funky round sponge like applicator tip. The color come out of the hole in the center of the sponge. The sponge absorbs the product to apply it to your lips.
Since the sponge is perfectly round, it’s very hard to get a precise application. I had to use a separate brush to get the lip cream close to the edges and corners of my lips.
The sponge applicator also doesn’t allow you to “glide” the lip cream along your lips. You pretty much have to pounce and dab the product onto your lips which doesn’t help to give you even coverage.
This lip cream is a little on the sheer side. It’s not 100% opaque but it’s not quite fully sheer either.
The finish is not 100% matte either. It never fully dries down and transfers as well so it’s not a long wear lip cream.
So since it wears off pretty quickly, it doesn’t have enough time on my lips to dry them out like most matte lippies do. It just stays silky smooth until it wears off.
Melon It Like It Is is more orange than I expected. It looks more like a rust color in the tube but it’s more of an orangey red color on my lips.
I’m not very impressed by this Wet N Wild soft matte lip cream. I’m not a fan of the color nor do I like the semi-sheer coverage it gives. The applicator is also too much of a pain to work with.
I’d recommend passing on this one unless you don’t mind taking the extra time with another tool to get a neat application.
