Spending $32 on a powder is not my idea of fun but if they all worked like this Urban Decay De-Slick Mattifying Powder, I’d do it more often! This is a shine-stopping powder that absorbs excess oils and keeps the shine away.
First I want to mention how beautiful the compact is. It’s a pretty purple plastic compact about the size of my palm. Embedded in the platic lid is a really pretty design. It flips open to reveal a mirror in the lid and a thin powderpuff applicator that conveniently sticks to the mirror.
So does this powder really work? Let’s take a look.
My first few tests came with applying a light dusting of powder, over foundation, with a fluffy kabuki brush since that is my preferred method of applying powders. I was convinced that I would be taking it back because it did absolutely nothing for my oily t-zone after a few hours of wear.
It looked great initially after application. It gave my skin a nice mattifyed finish and even blurs pores and fine lines a bit. But after 2 – 3 hours of summer heat, I was back to looking greasy and my foundation breaking down.
I didn’t want to give up on it yet and figured they included the thin applicator for a reason. So for my next few tests I tried pressing light layers over my foundation. Boom! That was totally what I was missing!
It doesn’t completely keep oil at bay but it controls it for a longer period of time and has significantly decreased the amount that appears on my face at the 4 – 5 hour mark. Once I begin to get a bit shiny, I pat on a little more around my t-zone area and my makeup lasts at least another 4 hours.
That is unheard of for me! I have not used one single powder that has held my makeup together for a full day of flawless wear. It’s a miracle! Usually foundation is close to gone from my nose at the 6 hour mark but with this De-Slick powder, my nose looks like I just applied my foundation at the end of the day!
The white powder is a nice and light texture that applies semi-translucent. Be careful not to apply too much at a time though cause it can get a bit chalky looking.
So, yes, the Urban Decay De-Slick powder is worth every single penny and I will most definitely purchase this again. It will be a staple in my foundation routine from now on! Just remember to press the powder into your skin with the puff and you’ll be set for the entire day.
