Stila Smudge Crayons ($22) come in your choice of 8 different shades. I decided to go with something outside of my comfort zone and chose the shimmery light pink shade called Rose. These crayons are a 3 in 1 product; primer, shadow and liner.
Stila lists the benefits as:
- primer, eye color and eye liner all-in-one
- creamy, creaseless formula glides on with ease
- long-wearing and water-resistant
- bold, color-rich shades
- vitamin e to soothe and protect
- pointed tip for easy application, plus sharpener (included)
So let’s get started and see how this stacks up to it’s claims. First of all I didn’t find this to be particularly creamy. It’s actually very firm and was a bit difficult to blend out as a shadow, even when using my warm fingertips. It’s ok in the pigmented department as well. I had to apply and blend out three layers to get it saturated enough to be noticeable on my fair skin because it is such a light shade.
As for wear, I still experience creasing with this smudge crayon. I have oily eyelids and I can’t get away with not wearing an extra eyeshadow primer with this. Without a primer first and used as a shadow, I get creasing within 4 hours of wear. With an added primer, I can get a full day in without creasing.
I do appreciate that they included a convenient sharpener to keep the tip nice and pointed. It’s discreetly hidden in the end of the smudge crayon stick for easy access.
Since I mainly bought this to use as an eye shadow, I can’t really recommend it as my #1 choice for a high-end crayon type eyeshadow. For the price, I much prefer the softer and creamier Urban Decay Glide-On shadow pencils or the Mally Evercolor shadow sticks. And for the budget conscious, you can’t beat the NYX Jumbo eye pencils.
