One of the best perks of being a Birchbox subscriber is the ability to earn reward points. For every product sample you receive in your box each month, you can earn points if you fill out a quick feedback form on the Birchbox website. For every item you leave feedback on, you earn 10 points. For every 100 points, you get $10 credit that you can put towards purchasing full size products on the Birchbox website.
I recently built my points up to 400 which gave me $40 in free merchandise! The Stila In The Know Eyeshadow Palette ($39) caught my eye so I cashed in all of my points and only had to pay for the shipping fees! The reason I chose this shadow palette is because it’s completely matte, which is hard to come by. It consists of a total of 10 matte eyeshadows and a full size waterproof smudge stick eyeliner.
Here’s what you get:
Air – creamy off white (blends into my skin tone)
Wind – flesh colored nude
Desert – peachy nude
Clay – pink nude
Earth – dark brown
Driftwood – medium brown
Fire – earthy orange, like clay soil
Rain – light taupe
Smoke – medium gray
Ebony – black
Halfmoon (smudge stick eyeliner) – dark charcoal gray
All of the shades in this palette are very wearable, warm earthy shades. The shadows are nicely pigmented and not too dry or powdery. They blend really nicely too. One of the unique things about these matte shadows is that you can wear them both wet and dry.
With a damp brush, they apply beautifully without any chunks or clumps. However, I’m not a fan of wearing these wet. It changes the look of them into more of an almost shimmery, metallic appearance which defeats the purpose of a matte eyeshadow.
Overall I think this is a great collection of basic matte colors. It’s not something you’d reach for when you want a bold unique look but it’s great for pairing with shimmery shades you already have in your collection. And for anyone who hates shimmery eyeshadows and likes natural, neutral looks, this Stila In The Know eyeshadow palette is perfect.
Available online at Sephora, Ulta and Amazon.

I have also been saving up my Birchbox points for a while. Back in the fall I had saved up my points and got a Clarisonic Mia for $35. Right now I have $50 worth of points saved up again. I had actually been eyeing this palette as well, but I think instead I’m going to keep saving up for a little while longer and purchase a large perfume (probably Harvey Prince Eau Flirt). I’m swimming in makeup at the moment but have been completely perfume-less for a few months.
