Nothing says summer to me than good old baked beans. They are such a versatile side dish that always goes great with just about anything grilled.
My usual go-to is just opening a can of Bush’s baked beans and calling it a day. Not anymore! These Southern Baked Beans are to die for and they are so quick and easy to make.
The baked bean “sauce” is nice and thick with just the right amount of sweet and tangy flavors. The top is finished off with a layer of delicious bacon. How can you say no to all that?!
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup barbecue sauce (I use Sweet Baby Ray's)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 28oz cans Pork and Beans
- Oscar Mayer Real Bacon Bits
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the ketchup, bbq sauce, brown sugar, mustard, worcestershire, garlic powder and pepper.
- Open the two cans of Pork and Beans and drain off the liquid that is separated in the very top of the can. Stir beans into the mixture.
- Pour into a medium baking dish. Top with a layer of bacon bits.
- Bake for 1 hour or until edges are bubbling. Remove from oven and let set for 15 minutes before serving.
Quick note: The pork and beans you’ll need for this recipe are the ones from brands like VanCamp’s and Campbells. Store them right side up until you’re ready to use so the excess liquid rises to the top.
