Rimmel Atomic Rose and Apollo Show Off Matte Lip Velvets ($5.99) are creamy liquid lip colors. The line is limited to only 5 different colors. I picked up the two lightest colors to try.
These claim to have a “velvety smooth finish with up to 8 hours of weightless color”. The texture is definitely silky smooth and weightless but the color definitely doesn’t last a full 8 hours on my lips.
The packaging is sleek and shaped similar to the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers. They have a doe foot applicator that does a good job of getting the color on the lips.
The creamy formula reminds me a lot of the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams only these are more wet and runny. These Lip Velvets are very pigmented and give good opaque coverage.
The finish takes a bit to dry completely matte but it stays creamy as you wear it. The color transfers quite a bit so these are not kiss proof. And I do not notice any staining on my lips after they wear off.
You’ll find that these do not make your lips dry feeling or cakey looking. Your lips stay soft as you wear them but they do wear off as the day goes on.
Since the color transfers onto things your lips touch, the color starts to go away gradually. I noticed that Apollo started gunking up in spots and wore away on the inside areas of my lips first.

The Final Verdict:
There are so many of these matte liquid lipsticks going around these days and this fits into that category. I don’t think it’s something you need to run out and buy but the formula is nice and I like the pigmentation.
I only wish that these matte lippies were a bit more long wearing. I find that these Rimmel Matte Lip Velvets are almost exactly the same as L’Oreal Nude Allude Pro Matte Gloss I also recently reviewed.
