New in stores are the Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers ($4.99) in 14 different shades. These lippies were first introduced in the UK under the name Apocalips and have since been given rave reviews. Now that they’ve hit the U.S., I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. I picked up two to start, Apocaliptic and Stellar.
Since trying these out over the past few weeks, I can see why women are in love with them. I wouldn’t consider these just a lip gloss, they are more along the lines of a liquid lipstick. They are extremely pigmented and one swipe gives you fantastic opaque coverage with lots of shine.
The two shades I bought are cream colors with no shimmer or sparkle. They did have several colors that do have shimmer though if that’s what you are looking for. They do have a strange scent to them, it’s sort of a cross between a chemical type scent and fruit. It’s not pleasant but not strong enough for me not to want to use them.
The packaging of these is quite unique. We all know how hard it can be in the store to guess whether someone has tried out a beauty product that is not sealed. Even though these have a small plastic breakable seal on them, when you start to pull the wand out of the tube there should be a pocket of air at the very top.
As you pull the wand out, it pulls product up into that pocket. So if you open a tube with a broken seal and it has product all the way to the top then you know someone has tampered with that tube. Pretty cool.
The applicator is almost the shape of a doe foot applicator with the addition of a small well in the center of it that holds a good bit of product. These lip lacquers are so smooth and creamy that they easily glide on the lips. They feel soft and light without being slippery or sticky.
The pigmentation is crazy good. You really only need one light layer because a little goes a long way. Apocaliptic is more of a fuchsia pink color while Stellar is a bright pink with an orange tone to it.
Wear time is that of a normal lip gloss but I found that these two shades do stain the lips a bit. Be warned that these do transfer really easily and can be quite messy. If you get a tiny bit on your fingers it can easily make a nice splotch on your clothing.
I highly recommend these Rimmel Show Off Lip Lacquers to anyone who’s looking for opaque lip coverage at a really decent price. The majority of the shades are bright, bold colors but there are some neutrals available in the bunch. Have you tried these yet?
