New to the Real Techniques line of makeup brushes is the Miracle Complexion Sponge ($5.99) for applying foundation. This sponge is egg shaped with one pointed end and the other end has a flat edge. The texture of the sponge itself is nice and soft but a little firmer than a Beauty Blender sponge.
The packaging doesn’t mention anything about using it wet like you do with a Beauty Blender so I started testing it dry. It applies the foundation fairly well and gives your skin a very nice, flawless finish. The only thing I did not like is that it really soaks up and wastes a lot of foundation.
I was still wondering if I was using it right so I watched the demo video on the RealTechniques.com site. It still never mentioned wetting the sponge but I decided to give that a try before writing my review. When used damp, I experienced the same results. It still soaked up a lot of foundation but gave me a flawless finish.
I read a few other reviews that mentioned that the sponge did not hold up after cleaning it. I washed mine with my Clean & Clear facial wash and it held up just fine.
Overall this is a good foundation sponge for anyone on a budget. It’s nice and soft and applies foundation really well. But if you’re looking for a cheaper alternative to the Beauty Blender, this is not it. I still prefer my Beauty Blender because it does not soak up my foundation.
Are you excited to try the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge?

I certainly have been wanting to try the beauty blender, due to all of the hype about it… but I just can’t bring myself to shell out the cash for it. I think I will try this one… since I won’t have anything to compare it to… perhaps I’ll love it! haha… ignorance is bliss, right? Thanks for your review. It’s surprising that they don’t talk about wetting the sponge at all… I even wet my disposable sponges before I use them so they don’t soak up as much product.
Thanks again!!
