I was able to purchase this collection early because I am subscribed to the QVC Inside Q magazine so I have been testing these items now for a few weeks. Most of the items are new to Tarte so I’m going to give you my thoughts on them.
Let’s start with the primer since it is the basis for makeup application. This one is in a wind up stick form and has the consistency of say a stick concealer. The lavender and green sections are supposed to help with color correction.
It goes on pretty smoothly and has minimal coverage. It doesn’t really mask my age spots or redness very well so I would never just wear this alone. It does help though to give added coverage when you apply foundation over top. And it seems to help my makeup last longer.
Now on to the foundation. This foundation comes in a jar with a twist off lid. It contains 0.68 fl oz which a good bit below the average 1 fl oz that you normally get with liquid foundations.
It has a round section in the middle with mesh where the foundation actually come out. I’m not quite sure about the packaging of this one. It seems as though it might be very difficult to get every bit out once it gets down to the end.
The foundation itself is very thin and runny. I have a lot of difficulty using the included brush to apply it and get a good finish. The brush seems to just drag around the foundation and give me a thin uneven, blotchy finish.
After several attempts using the brush, I ditched it for my dry Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. When I use it with the sponge I get a nice flawless finish. This foundation gives light to medium coverage with a semi-dewy finish.
And since it’s so moist and lightweight, it doesn’t last me all day with my oily t-zone. It starts to break down on me after about 5 hours and starts to slip around. I definitely won’t be able to use this in the warmer months.
I love the adorable design of the bronzer blush! It has a feather design embossed in the top with shades of pinks and bronzes. It gives a slightly shimmery finish but not overly shimmery. It just gives my cheeks some nice dusty mauve color with a bit of a glow.
The eyeliner is just your standard black wind up pencil with loads of pigmentation. It holds well on my inner rims as well.
And who could forget my favorite mascara! This has always been one of my faves for lots of added length and volume.
I was really excited to see this lip gloss which is a new addition to the LipSurgence line. The color is a sheer rapberry red shade with a little shimmer in it. It has a smooth texture and is not sticky at all.
I was really happy that it does not have the standard minty scent but instead smells like vanilla. I’m not really fond of how it accentuates my lip lines though so I would never wear it alone but instead on top of a lipstick.
Even though I do not like the brush for applying this particular foundation, it’s still a nice brush to have. It is really soft and really dense. I have been mostly using it to smooth out the primer after I “draw” it on my face.
I was really disappointed in the bag they included with this collection. It’s really flimsy and is really nothing special. With all the pretty packaging they did on the rest of the collection, they could have done a bag that was much more in keeping with the theme. It just sort of seems like an afterthought.
Overall this Tarte Colored Clay collection was pretty good. If you have oily skin at all, this foundation may not work best for you. For the price of this whole TSV set, it’s well worth a try. QVC has a 30 day return policy so you can always return it if you aren’t happy with it.
