Physicians Formula new Kohl Kajal Eyeliner Trio ($10.95) caught my eye with it’s unique shape. The claim that they are 100% waterproof and will help create dramatic eyes is what finally sold me. Even though I have blue eyes, I bought the set for brown eyes because I liked those colors. You get Espresso (chocolate brown), Purple and Black.
I was expecting great things from these kohl kajal eyeliners but ended up pretty disappointed. Before I get to my complaints, let me share what claims Physicians Formula has printed on the back of the box.
- Highly pigmented eyeliner trio delivers rich color and instant drama!
- Versatile eyeliner for eye enhancing definition and inner rim intensity.
- Super-smooth gliding texture makes defining eyes effortless.
- Unique kohl formula is 100% waterproof for high performance and ultra glamorous definition.
They look and sound great right? So what’s the problem? They provide intense color right? Not so much. They’re highly pigmented? Not really. High performance? Nope. Smooth gliding? Not at all.
With the Physicians Formula kohl kajal eyeliners I found that you really had swipe the eyeliner several times to get any kind of “intense” color. Usually with a kohl eyeliner, one swipe and you have dark rich pigment. You get dark pigment with these but only after about 3 -4 passes.
I also had a hard time applying this kohl eyeliner without tugging at my eyelids. They’re definitely not creamy and do not glide right on. In fact when I was trying to test the brown one, I was applying more pressure to get it darker and the tip snapped right off! And I can only assume that will happen to all of them eventually.
That leads me to the shape of the eyeliner itself. I’m confused with how you would use these to their complete ends. Once that finer tip wears down, you have no way of sharpening it again. That would make it kinda impossible to use.
As far as wear, mine wore off on my waterline within 4 hours and the rest smudged like crazy. That to me does not equal waterproof high performance.
Final Thoughts:
Unfortunately the Physicians Formula kajal kohl eyeliner trio was a major fail for me. I really am left with nothing positive to say about these except for their neat look. I will be returning mine asap.

That’s just wrong. I follow a few Indian blogs (from India, not Native American) and you’re right kohl kajal should be intense from the first swipe, although real kohl kajal is supposed to be smudged for like a super dark smokey eye. So I could understand them being soft and not setting for awhile so you could do that effect, but if they say waterproof it should set and not smudge even more throughout the day! This is a sad sad product.
Real kohl kajal has that weird shape and I never understood what you are supposed to do with it after it loses it tip either. There must be some way of sharpening it?

Yeah when the box said Kohl I expected deep, dark intense color especially for the black. I was really bummed that it wasn’t better pigmented.

I’m glad it wasn’t just me. I had high hopes for these-I got them in the neutral pack, so black, charcoal and silver. I was able to apply them on paper very easily but couldn’t get them to transfer onto my eyelids much at all, and I couldn’t tolerate the amount of pressure it would have needed (why I always wear liquid eyeliner instead of pencil). Even after I managed to apply enough of the charcoal to be visible after several painful attempts it smudged everywhere and most of it had disappeared within an hour thanks to my oily skin. I wish I had been able to return it-it was a total waste of seven dollars.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts Victoria. It’s good to hear that I’m not alone at disliking these.
