Phew, I finally got my hands on a few of the new shades of the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Eyeshadows! I only picked up two of the six shades cause they actually don’t seem very wearable for everyday.
Let’s take a look at these two limited edition colors:
Seashore Frosts is a really unique shade. It’s a gray based light blue with reddish golden shimmer. This one looks different in pretty much any way you look at it. One minute it looks blue, the next a pinkish golden. It’s a really complex color to describe.
Waves Of White is white based with a light blue shimmery duochrome. Whoa, this one is amazing in person! When swatched, it really looks nothing light white at all. It’s basically clear with a light blue, almost lilac, shift. Stunning!
Unfortunately neither one of these shades is opaque enough to wear alone. They are both quite thin and just give a shear wash of light color, especially Waves Of White. You basically get no base color with Waves Of White, just a layer of shimmer.
I’ve found that you can build up 2 – 3 layers for a better effect, letting each layer dry in between. You still won’t get the look of traditional opaque eyeshadow though. And with Waves Of White, it starts to look a littly ghostly with my fair skin.
I think both of these may be best when worn over a powder eyeshadow to add that element of duochrome shimmer. When worn alone, Waves of White can be quite patchy even if you are careful applying it.
Overall I think these are unique enough to own for something fun to add to your makeup collection. As long as you take them for what they are and don’t expect to get tons of use from them, then I think you’ll enjoy them. They aren’t something you’ll reach for day in and day out but on occasion they can be cool for a pop of fun shimmer.
Did you buy any of the new duochrome Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows this Spring? Which one is your favorite?
