I have a definite addiction to trying new foundations and I swore I wasn’t going to try anymore anytime soon…but I just can’t resist! I always feel like I’m going to miss out on something great!
When I saw the new Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid-Touch Foundation ($10.99) I wasn’t really jumping for joy. I expected not to like this one at all. It seemed very runny in the store and I hate thin, runny foundations. They never seem to cover enough or hold up well on my oily skin.
I told myself to hold onto the receipt cause I was almost sure this was going to be one that gets returned. Boy was I wrong! And I’m so glad I took a chance on this one!
First off the packaging is pretty unique. It comes in a glass bottle but does not have a pump. Instead, it has a long wand attached to the cap that dips into the foundation. You can then transfer the drops of foundation to your fingertips or the back of your hand.
I was glad to see that this foundation contains Broad Spectrum SPF 20 and comes in about a dozen different shades. I chose #20 Classic Ivory. The bottle is a bit deceiving because it makes the colors look a little darker than they are.
I usually fall in the ivory category so I stuck with that shade even though it looked darker than I’m used to. I’m glad I did though cause the color matches me perfectly.
One thing that did surprise me though is that it has a pretty strong chemical odor to it at first. It almost smells like rubbing alcohol. It doesn’t last long though, just while you’re applying it.
Since this has a pretty runny consistency, it works better for me when applied with my Sigma F80 flat top kabuki brush. One thin layer gives me almost full coverage with a demi-matte finish. A little seems to go a very long way too.
It easily covers any redness and imperfections. Only the most difficult spots peek thru just a tiny bit. It is buildable though for any troublesome areas.
The finish of this foundation is beautiful and very natural looking! Even in the areas where I added more it doesn’t look caked on. It seems to really even out the texture of my skin and disguise fine lines and pores. I did notice that dimethicone is the first ingredient listed so I can see why it makes my skin look great.
It even wears like iron on my oily skin as well. I only notice minimal breakdown on my nose area starting at the 8 hour mark which is fabulous for me! I’m guessing the silicone in it is what really helps with both the wear time and in evening out my pores and fine lines.
Needless to say, I’m in love! I am most definitely not returning this to the store. I love that it feels so lightweight which is perfect for summer.
If I had to complain about one thing it would be the amount you get. Most foundation bottles come with 1 fluid ounce of product, unfortunately this one only contains 0.67 fluid ounces.
So for your $11 you’re getting a little more than half of what you could normally get with another drugstore foundation at around the same price. 🙁 That kinda sucks Maybelline.
So are you going to try out the Maybelline Dream Wonder Fluid Touch Foundation?

OMG, I need this. I love the packaging on that. Like you, I am a bit hesitant, especially after the Dream Liquid Mousse was such an epic fail for me but your review gives me some serious hope! I’m thinking I have to run to the store…like now. Thank you for the awesome post 🙂
