L’Oreal Infallible Pro-Matte Foundation ($11.99) is a long wearing medium coverage foundation with a demi-matte finish. It comes in a range of 12 different shades. The squeeze tube contains the standard foundation amount, 1oz.
As with most drugstore foundations, it was hard to pick my shade without testers available. Since I’m usually an Ivory, in most other foundations, I picked Classic Ivory and hoped I chose right.
Thankfully that color is perfect for my fair skin. This foundation is the perfect consistency, not thin and runny but not too thick like some matte foundations tend to be. And a little goes a long way too. A pea sized amount it enough for my whole face.
I prefer applying Pro-Matte with a damp Beauty Blender sponge. I think it blends out better and gives me a more natural finish than when I used a brush.
It easily blends out and nicely covers any redness and blemishes. It does give my skin a matte finish but not dry or cakey looking. There’s a very slight glow so it looks very natural on the skin.
However, if you usually like to add a second layer of foundation this can start to look too heavy and caked on. I stick with one light layer with a very small amount of powder on my t-zone and spot conceal any extra bits that still peek through.
For a matte foundation, Pro-Matte feels nice and light on my skin. It doesn’t feel thick and heavy or make my skin feel dry at all.
It claims to be a 24 hour foundation but I don’t experience that to be true for my oily skin. I will say that this does wear very well though and even passed my ultimate foundation test.
I tested this one without wearing my usual musts – a primer and a finishing powder. I did this for a few days to see how it would actually hold up to my oily t-zone. And surprisingly it did pretty well.
With most other foundations, my makeup would be a mess after the 4 hour mark. Slip, sliding and fading away. This actually holds up really well after 10 hours without my primer and powder. Only my nose gets a bit shiny at that point.
As you can guess this does superb when I do use my primer and finish with a light dusting of powder. I can actually still see my blush on my cheeks at the end of the day! And I’m not a shiny mess even though I haven’t touched up at all.
Overall I’d say this is a must try foundation especially for those who like to apply their makeup and forget it. You’ll get great wear all day without fussing with touch ups.
I do think the pricing is ridiculous though. Especially when some of my other favorite drugstore foundations cost almost half as much.
