With one look at this palette I knew I had to have it! Aren’t the colors so beautiful and perfect for Spring and Summer? The Lorac AfterGLO Eye Shadow Palette ($24) is only available at Ulta.
This palette is a great combination of both matte and shimmer shades. I love that both the brown shades on the right are matte and make great crease colors. All of the shades are buttery smooth and even the two most glittery shades do not have any fallout issues.
I normally have great experiences with Lorac eye shadows as far as pigmentation goes. So naturally I was a little surprised when these weren’t quite as good as I’d come to expect from the brand. Unfortunately even the most vibrant shades in this palette come off a little on the sheer side.
You may look at these swatches and think “what is she talking about, those look really pigmented”. And you would be partially correct.
Yes, when swatched they look great at a concentrated swipe of color from your finger. But when you use a brush on your lids, they just lose a lot of that boldness. It takes a good 2 – 3 applications to get good, even coverage on my lids.
After testing out these shades for a few weeks I’ve come to the conclusion that they apply much better when you start with a coordinating cream color base such as the Maybelline Color Tattoos. When worn that way I get much better color payoff and the colors look much more vibrant.
Whenever I wore these eye shadows without a cream base they looked washed out, muted and not as colorful. I also noticed that some shades were a bit patchy as well. Especially with the shimmery teal, shimmery gold and shimmery brown.
Overall I’d say this is an average eye shadow palette. The shadows have a nice smooth texture and are not powdery or chalky at all. But if you’re looking for drop dead bold vibrant color, you won’t get that with this.
