Summer is the best time of year for simple side dish recipes like this French Onion Tater Tot Casserole. It only calls for four simple ingredients and makes the perfect accompaniment to anything grilled.
If you’re like me, you really don’t want to spend any length of time in front of a hot stove during these hot summer months. This easy casserole can be assembled early in the morning and can be refrigerated to pop in the oven later in the evening.
I have never once thought of using a container of french onion dip in a casserole before. Once you think about it though, it totally makes sense.
All you need to mix with it is a bag of tater tots, a can of cream of chicken soup and some cheese. Voila! A perfect batch of cheesy potatoes that took only minutes to throw together!
Ingredients:
- 32 oz bag of frozen tater tots
- 1 can of cream of chicken soup
- 16 oz container French onion dip
- 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9 x13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray, set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix together the tater tots, soup, dip and cheese. Transfer to baking dish.
- Bake for 45 - 60 minutes or until top starts to brown.

Have you tried this in a slow cooker?
No, I have not.
I make this for our very large family gatherings and double it and make it in the crockpot. I start it on high for a couple hours and stir well then drop it to low and continue to stir. It breaks down the tots quite a bit but doesn’t change the deliciousness of it!
It’s delicious isn’t it! Glad you like it!
I made this for a party and it was such a hit! So easy and good.
Have you ever added shredded chicken?
I’m sorry but I have not.
