I’m usually super impressed by Elf Cosmetics products but I have to say that this Rose Gold Baked Highlighter & Blush duo ($4) is a real disappointment. I’ve bought their baked products before and have loved them so I’m quite shocked by this one.
It is so beautiful in the pan! One side is a golden highlighter and the other side is a coral pink blush.
At first swatch, neither of these colors packs any kind of punch. I really had to rub and rub against it to get any kind of pigmentation to come off on my finger.
Once you start getting any color payoff, it swatches ok on the back of my hand. The highlighter swatches nicely but the blush color is very low on pigmentation.
From the pan, you’re expecting a beautiful medium pink color but it’s super light and has a very golden sheen to it. I was expecting something way more pigmented.
On the cheeks, the blush color is almost nonexistent. You really have to add layer, after layer, to see any pink color on your cheeks. It just sort of blends away to a very pale pink.
Even though the highlighter doesn’t swatch well, it actually looks much better on the face. The highlighter does give my skin a nice natural glow.
The powder itself has a nice feel to it. It’s smooth and creamy and blends really nicely.
The blush color is pretty much useless for giving my cheeks any pink color. To get use out of this, I’ll probably just swirl the two colors together and just use it as a highlighter only.
I’m sad to say that this Rose Gold highlighter/blush duo is a pass for me. The combination of colors is so pretty in the packaging but the color payoff is such a disappointment.
