I was really excited to find the new collection of Covergirl XL Nail Gel nail polishes at a local Rite Aid the other day. The collection of colors is not that impressive, it basically consists of just primary colors.
I picked up the yellow shade called Haughty Lemon. The bottles are a little bigger than the full sized Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant nail polishes. But man, I was shocked at how pricey they are!
The price was not on the display so I didn’t realize how much I paid for it until I got out to my car. I was not expecting $8.99 since the Stay Brilliant polishes are quite affordable. If I had known that before, I would not have bought it since the color is really not that unique.
And I definitely would not have bought it had I known how much I would dislike it! The polish is so thick and hard to work with. I made a mess of my manicure and had lots of cleanup to do, around the edges and cuticles, with a brush and polish remover.
It was close to impossible to get even, smooth coverage. Two coats were enough to give me opaque coverage but I ended up with very fine bubbles on some nails as well even though I never shook the bottle.
I applied this nail polish yesterday and I already have a few chips today. I’m guessing that’s because it was so darn thick.
I’m so sad that this Covergirl polish didn’t work for me like I had hoped it would. I was really excited to try it because I am already quite fond of the Outlast Stay Brilliant formula.
Have any of you ladies tried out these XL nail gel polishes yet? I’m curious if you had success with them or not.

I just put some on and it was not going well at first. The problem is the brush. I cut it in half and that made it easier to apply the polish. Gel brushes in the salons are stubby and I think it makes it easier to get an even coat.

Oh good, I’m glad to hear that it wasn’t just me that had a hard time with the large brush. I may have to try trimming mine.
