New in stores is the Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer ($32). With my oily skin I’m a sucker for trying any new primers in the hopes that one, some day, will totally keep it under control.
Stay Flawless is in stick form that winds up to reveal more product. The primer itself is in a light skin tone color that blends to a clear finish. It has a fresh, clean scent too which is pleasant.
The primer is silky smooth and glides nicely onto the skin in a nice thin layer. It starts off a bit on the moist side but dries down to a matte finish.
The directions recommend applying it to the skin and then immediately apply foundation with your fingers. The concept is that it will blend with your foundation to give you a flawless, locked down finish instead of acting as it’s own layer beneath your foundation.
In testing this I did try it applying foundation with a brush too. The primer seems to ball up when you work it too much with a brush, it must need the heat of your fingertips to keep it smooth.
With applying this primer as directed in the packaging, it does give my skin a nice smooth appearance. It seems to fill in most of my fine lines and smaller pores nicely. I have also seen an improvement in the way my makeup lasts during the day.
It’s been really humid in the Pittsburgh area lately so foundation doesn’t last me all day this time of year. The past few weeks I’ve been lucky to get more than 4 hours of wear before starting to break down around my cheeks and nose areas. With this primer I’m able to get closer to 6 hours of wear and even then my cheeks stay matte and only my nose gets greasy.
Overall I’m very happy with this primer. It gives my skin a nice smooth appearance while making my makeup last longer. It’s quite pricey but a little does go a long way so I don’t mind paying a bit extra as long as it does have added benefits like it’s performance.
