Looking for another easy crockpot dinner solution? Check out this Chicken Ranch Taco recipe I recently tried. I came across this one on Pinterest a few weeks ago but it was originally posted as a stove-top skillet recipe. One of the commenters mentioned making it in the crockpot and I thought that was an excellent idea!
This fast and easy recipe calls for only 4 simple ingredients that you just drop in the crockpot and go. Your shredded chicken ends up super moist with lots of great taco flavor. You may want to make extra though cause this chicken can be used in multiple ways for leftovers. It would be great on salads, in soups, quesadillas and more!
Ingredients:
- 2 -3 lbs skinless, boneless chicken breasts
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix
- 1 packet ranch mix (I had the dip mix on hand but dressing mix works also)
- 1 cup chicken broth
Directions:
- Pour both of the dried mixes into the crockpot. Add broth and whisk until combined.
- Add chicken breasts.
- Cook on low for 4 - 6 hours depending on amount and thickness of chicken breasts. When chicken starts to fall apart, it’s done.
- Remove chicken from crockpot and shred. Serve with your desired taco shells and fixins!

I make this recipe and it was great for chicken tacos.
Use the left over chicken for tortilla soup adding
1 can black beans-drained, 1 can corn, 1 can diced tomatoes,
and 1 can or rotel tomatoes with 2 boxes of chicken stock.
Used 1/2 pack of Taco seasoning.
My family loved it!!

I am Making this right now. First time ever making it, but needed an easy dinner for crock pot. Came across this recipe on Pinterest and thought why not. We love tacos around here. I can’t wait for it to be done!
myfindsonline says
Cool, hope you love it as much as we do!

Hi, could you use the dressing that comes in a bottle for this recipe? I don’t have any packets on hand…if so, how much would you suggest using? Thanks!
myfindsonline says
Hi Jenn. The bottled dressing probably won’t do as well for this. The dry mix gives more concentrated flavor to the chicken so you’d probably have to use a lot of the bottled. Sorry I couldn’t be more help, I’m just not sure if the flavoring would be the same.

This looks delicious; I’m gonna give it a try! I’m pretty sure the leftovers will be fantastic on a salad at work!
myfindsonline says
Thanks Kathy, hope you enjoy it! I love versatile recipes like this cause you can cook extra and make a few different meals out of it for the next couple days.

Several ppl in my family can’t eat anything spicy. Would this work for wraps without the taco seasoning mix? Would you need to add anything to thicken it?
Thanks
myfindsonline says
Hi Dorothy. You could season the chicken with anything you like as a substitute to the taco packet. I would start with just about 1/2 cup of the broth then for just a bit of flavor.
kt says
Flavor nice, but chicken was really dry! Any suggestions?
myfindsonline says
Sorry to hear that KT. Next time you could add some water to it as it cooks or some chicken broth.
Kt says
The recipe called for 1 cup of chicken broth. I put in TWO cups, because I had about 5 chicken breasts?
Amber says
Can I put the chicken I. Frozen?
myfindsonline says
The USDA does not recommend using frozen chicken in a crockpot, you should thaw it first.
Ashley says
I made this for dinner tonight, and my family with small children ate it up. It had good flavor, But for me it was way too salty!
myfindsonline says
Bummer, unfortunately not being able to control the salt amount is one of the downsides of using mix packets like this. 🙁
Chellissa says
Do you shred the chicken and then put it back in the crock pot with all the juices?
myfindsonline says
Hi Chellissa. I do like to add a bit of the juices to the shredded chicken for added moisture and flavor but just enough to coat it. Otherwise your tacos will be messy with juice dripping all over you. Hope that helps.

Hello, This is a great recipe! Try a 16oz bottle of store brand picante sauce instead of chicken broth. Cook as usual. Remove chicken. Measure out the drippings and add enough water to make Spanish rice on the stove. Delicious!
myfindsonline says
Mmm, sounds good Patricia. Thanks for the tip!
Kimberly says
Can you use a bottle of ranch and how much? Instead of packet..
myfindsonline says
Hi Kimberly. You probably could although it won’t be as concentrated flavor wise. Not really sure how much you should use. It may take an entire bottle depending on your tastes.
Donna says
After you shred it, do you put it back in the pot with the liquid?
myfindsonline says
Hi Donna. It really depends on your preference. I usually drain most of the liquid and just mix in a small amount to keep the chicken moist. Hope that helps.

I use the dressing all the time instead of the packet, works great. I also omit the chicken broth and only use water. I found that broth, even low sodium sometimes made it Saltier than my family liked.
