The other day while trolling around Walgreens, I came upon a display with 4 new limited edition shades of the oh, so popular Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Cream Eyeshadows ($6.99). All 4 shades were gorgeous, vibrant jewel toned colors. I opted to purchase 3 of the 4; Fuchsia Fever, Test My Teal and Ready, Set, Green. The one I didn’t buy, Blue On By, was a cobalt blue shade.
The first thing I noticed about these, when I first opened them, was their uneven texture. They seemed lumpy and bumpy, especially Fuchsia Fever. I’d never seen that with all the ones I’ve purchased before so I was immediately worried that maybe the formula was off a bit. Fuchsia Fever was even cracked around the edges so I expected them to be maybe drier than normal.
Despite their odd initial appearance, they’re just as creamy and smooth as all the other Color Tattoos. All three of these limited edition colors are pretty sheer though. So if you’re expecting the brightness that’s in the packaging, you’ll need to build up several layers to get that rich, opaque color.
I suggest applying several thin layers. Too much fussing with them will lead to a streaky appearance. Apply a thin layer, let it dry a bit, then add another layer, let it dry and so on. Yes, that does take more time, but the result will be worth it.
These three limited edition shades are very shimmery also, especially after the initial application. But once they dry down, the shimmer is much less noticeable. Of all three, I think Ready, Set, Green is the most wearable for Fall and Winter. It will go great blended with some golds and neutrals.
So what do you think of these three jewel toned Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo eyeshadows? Are they too bold for you or are you brave enough to give them a try?

I wasn’t too interested in these LE shades–I wanted the neutral ones like the beige and mahogany (which are the only 2 I haven’t been able to find :/). Test My Teal looks kind of similar to Tenacious Teal in the pot, but swatched it looks like a true teal. Very pretty, although quite sheer, as you mentioned. I think I’ll give these a pass :/
