Move over Tarte and Clinique, there’s a new lip stain stick in town!! It’s the new Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains ($8.99). Available in 12 different shades, these balm stains don’t need sharpening either, just twist up for more product. I’ve never tried the Clinique version but I do own several of the Tarte Lip Surgence so I will compare these against those.
What I noticed first about these is that they have a similar minty smell just like Tarte’s Lip Surgence do. And the shape and size are almost exact; 0.10 oz for Tarte and 0.095 oz for these Revlon balm stains.
I find that the texture of these are much different than Tarte. Revlon’s balm stains seem more solid if that makes sense. They feel more like a light lipstick to me. The Tarte ones are softer and glide on a bit easier. Most of the Tarte colors I own are more on the sheer side like a tinted lip balm. But that really doesn’t make one better than the other to me.
One thing I do like much more about these Revlon colors are that they are are a bit more pigmented and opaque. Plus they don’t contain very much sparkle or glitter, just some very fine specks in Honey. The majority of the colors of Tarte Lip Surgence contain lots of sparkle which is a bit much for me at 36.
I bought 4 of the 12 available shades:
- Precious – a semi-sheer basic nude
- Honey – a rosey pink nude
- Sweetheart – bubblegum pink
- Rendezvous – a darker peach orange
As far as the lip stain aspect of these I really don’t find that they stain my lips very much at all. But on the other hand I didn’t buy any of the darker red shades so maybe the darker colors stain more. I don’t get much stain from the Lip Surgences either. My lips are fairly pigmented though so maybe I just don’t notice a subtle stain.
For comparisons sake I found two shades of the Tarte Lip Surgence that came close to two of the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm stains that I purchased. They’re not exact matches but I just wanted to show the difference of the two brands side by side. The tube designs are pretty much exact.
Considering that the Tarte Lip Surgence retails for $24 each and Clinique Chubby Sticks retail for $16, these Revlon Just Bitten Kissable balm stains are a deal! Especially when you can take advantage of the next Revlon sale in your local Ulta or drugstore like I did.
I was able to score these before Rite Aid’s sale for 40% off all Revlon products ended. So I actually bought each one for only $5.39 each! You’re never able to get Tarte Lip Surgence on sale like that.
These balm stains are definitely worth trying. Summer was a perfect time to debut these since they feel so light on the lips and they’re easy to apply. It would have been nice if they had thrown some SPF in them though for a little Summer sun protection.
Have you spotted these babies yet? When you do, will you buy any to try out?

Hi! These Revlon balms look nice, I like Honey. I agree with you, I was hoping they would’ve added some SPF to it.

Hi Rachel! The SPF would have made them the ultimate balm for summer. Honey is a great color, it looks more rose in person than my picture shows. Thanks for stopping by!

I bought two colors. Right now CVS has buy one get 1 50% off plus I had a buy $15 worth of cosmetics and get $5.00 off coupon. I am going back to buy more colors. I LOVE THEM. Perfect consistancy. They don’t stain much but last and last without being sticky like some long wearing products are.

Hey I discovered your blog through random searching for dark red nail polishes in google! Im starting to go over your blog now!!! Really love it!! Love how you swatch those lip products on your lips!! Helps a lot!

Thanks so much! I think it helps a lot to see them up close and on the lips themselves. It’s amazing how much a color can change from applying over your pink lips instead of a flesh colored arm. Thanks for stopping by!
