Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Cream Gel Eyeshadow ($6.99) are highly pigmented little pots of pure color! These creamy shadows are long lasting and easy to apply. I bought three colors at Ulta the other day; Audacious Asphalt, Pomegranate Punk and Bold Gold.
- Audacious Asphalt – A nice medium gray with silver shimmer.
- Pomegranate Punk – Simmery deep mauve color.
- Bold Gold – Just as the name describes, a rich gold color.
The Maybelline Color Tattoo eyeshadows come in 10 vibrant colors. All of them are shimmery colors except for one, Tough as Taupe, which is a matte color. I wanted to buy that one too but I haven’t been able to get my hands on it yet.
Color Tattoo shadows look really bold and rich in the pots but they do apply a bit sheer. Don’t be alarmed though, they are very buildable and blendable. You’ll want to work pretty fast though cause once they dry, they’re not movable. Maybelline calls them a cream gel and they are nice and creamy like MAC paint pots. You can apply them easily with your fingers or a brush if you prefer.
As for long wearing, they’re supposed to stay put for 24 hours. However with my oily eyelids, I personally don’t find that true. I tested Color Tattoo eyeshadows both with a primer and without. When worn without a primer, they did crease badly on me after about 6 hours of wear. But with a primer, I wore them for 10 hours with no creasing or fading.
Final Thoughts:
I would highly recommend the Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo Cream Gel Eyeshadow. For a fraction of the cost of a MAC paint pot, these perform just as well. You may not be able to go without a primer either but for me that’s no big deal. They’re durable and long wearing so that’s enough for me. I do hope they come out with a few more matte neutrals though.
Have you purchased any Color Tattoo eyeshadows yet? If so, what do you think of them?

I’m really tempted to purchase one of these but I’m already in love the L’Oreal Infallible and I’m wondering how the two compare. Which one would you prefer?

Hmm, that’s a tough question because I really like both of them and they are a bit different. In my opinion the color tattoo is better to be used as a base for powder eyeshadows. It’s more sheer and less pigmented than the Infallible. The Infallible shadows are bolder and easier worn alone. They both wear equally well for me too. Hope that helps!

You need both! lol
My favorite is the L’Oreal to be honest. But the Maybelline is a close second. Shop the sales and use your CVS extra bucks (or whatever Walgreens and Rite Aid has, I know they all have these kinds of money saving programs). You can’t go wrong just picking up one Maybelline and giving it a try with a coupon, sale, and extra bucks! lol

I love these, I have “Bad to the Bronze” & am already considering buying another since I love it so much, it seems to have just enough sparkle to it so that I don’t feel like a circus freak. I have the L’Oreal Infallible as well but I feel with the shades I have of those that I should wear somewhere special or toned down a bit with a matte neutral because of the sparkle. Thanks for the review, can’t wait to get Pomegranate Punk! 🙂

You’re welcome Tiffany! I agree, they are much more toned down that the Infallible. The Infallibles are much more bold and shimmery while these Tattoo shadows are more sheer. I just got my hands on the Tough as Taupe too and it’s a really great matte color.

Love these and I hope they come to India soon !!

Well I don’t care if the L’Oreal is too sparkly for daytime. I still wear them, I just sheer them out a bit more. They are too gorgeous to save for “date night”. (With my husband 25 years…there just aren’t enough date nights anymore! lol)

I agree Donna, I wear mine during the day too. They may be shimmery but there’s nothing wrong with that! And after 14 years with my hubby, we don’t do fancy date nights very often either!
