I’ve been getting the Ipsy bag for 10 months now and this is the first month that I’ve been disappointed. Usually they are loaded with makeup products and a few, if not all, full sized items. Not this month, for me at least.
I have sensitive skin so I don’t like trying new skincare very often. That was one of the main reasons why I left Birchbox for Ipsy. Birchbox was leaning more towards skincare and less towards makeup. I hope that’s not the case with Ipsy now. Only time will tell I guess.
Here’s what I got:
Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave in Conditioner 1.7oz ($3.59) – I can always use conditioned hair so I will definitely see how this one works.
Skiin Soothing and Smoothing Eye Cream 0.25oz ($14.98) – Supposed to reduce puffiness and fine lines. I will try it out but I’ve been trying to use more natural skincare products so I won’t repurchase this one.
Faith Aromatherapy Tahitian Monoi Anti-Aging Sugar Scrub 1oz ($1.50) – Not a fan of sugar scrubs so I probably won’t use this at all. It does smell good though, like sweet oranges.
Malin Goetz Mojito Lip Balm 0.35oz ($12) – A clear gel balm that does feel nice on the lips. Not sticky at all and has a slight minty, toothpaste scent to it. I really hate that you have to use your finger to apply it though. Wish it had a slanted applicator tip.
Elizabeth Mott Smooth Shadow Creamy Eye Pencil in Penny 0.02oz ($6) – A mini copper colored eyeliner pencil. It goes on pretty smooth but wasn’t as vibrant as I thought it would be. I had to go over my swatch several times to get it to show up well and it’s kinda splotchy.
The saving grace to this month’s Ipsy bag was that I redeemed my review points for a free Beauty Blender sponge. Ipsy members can go on the site and review each product we get in our monthly bags to earn bonus points. One review earns you one point.
When you hit 1000 points, you get to pick one of three reward items. I chose to receive a free Beauty Blender ($19.95) which came with a mini bottle of cleanser. Pretty cool!
Overall this month was a dud for me personally. The only thing that remotely excites me is the leave in conditioner spray. The other stuff I will probably try for curiosity’s sake and then throw away.

I’ve been suscribed to Ipsy for about 7 months now – and this is the first one that I’ve been disappointed in. Like you, I got the Sexy Soy conditioner (which I have received previously in a different subscription) and the Elizabeth Mott eye pencil in Penny – which looks quite pretty swatched, but didn’t really show up when applied on my eye lid. I was a little put off by the Mica Beauty tinted lip balm as the color is brighter than what I prefer – but with the right make up, it isn’t horrible. For same strange reason Ipsy sends me really bright colors when it comes to lipstick/balm – which doesn’t match with my profile. I also got the Absolute Cleansing wipes in the Pomegranate scent – which I absolutely hate the smell. The wipes themselves aren’t bad except for the overly nauseating scent. Had I received these in the Cucumber scent I would have probably loved them. The best product for me was the LeeAni Eco 3 in 1 Revolotion. It feels really nice on the skin.
Glad to know I wasn’t the only one disappointed this month. The product colors Ipsy gets aren’t always that flattering I’ve noticed. And I kind of wish they’d take a break with eyeliners. I swear I get one almost every month and I don’t wear pencil eyeliners that often.
I’m going to receive my first ipsy bag this month, but it hasn’t arrived yet. I would really love to get that leave-in conditioner!
