Maybelline Color Elixir by ColorSensational Liquid Color Balm ($8.99) is available in 20 fabulous shades. Since they are a bit on the pricey side I picked up 3 to try; Breathtaking Apricot, Petal Plush and Caramel Infused.
First of all, I love the packaging! These are in shorter, chubby clear plastic tubes with sleek silver lids. The application wands are unique for a lip gloss too. They are triangular shaped and fuzzy, similar to ones seen on the YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains and the L’Oreal Colour Caresse Wet Shine Stains but with more of a ribbed texture.
The ribbed texture on the wand seems to help it hold more product when pulled out of the tube. There is enough to coat my lips completely without having to re-dip it into the tube for more. These color balms have a very sweet scent like a mixture between candy and vanilla.
When you apply these onto your lips you’ll immediately notice how slick they feel. It’s a light almost slippery texture that feels so great. There is no stickiness at all and they keep my lips feeling soft too.
All three of these shades give a nice amount of pigmentation with semi-opaque coverage. I love all three colors but do have a minor issue with one of them.
Petal Plush has very fine silver glitter in it that I didn’t notice until it wore off. Sadly I am left with glittery specks all over my lips, which I can’t stand. I’m super disappointed because I loved the light pink color but I can’t get past the glitter at my age.
Caramel Infused is by far my favorite one. It’s a very natural creamy pink shade with no shimmer in it. I have been using that one a ton since I started testing these.
Overall I think these are a must try for gloss lovers. They give your lips a nice amount of color with a nice glossy finish. I love that they don’t feel like your average lip gloss. Just a nice light, silky feel to them.
Have you tried the Maybelline Color Elixir Liquid Color Balms yet?
