Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain ($32) is a recently new product in their line. Yes, it is quite pricey so that’s why I carefully chose one color to purchase and try. After long deliberating, I chose #18 Rose Pastelle. I am in love with this color! Rose Pastelle is a beautiful pale pink color, perfect for Spring.
This YSL glossy stain has an ample sponge tip that makes applying it a breeze. The texture is pretty thin and watery so you can easily apply it and then let it set. It’s not fast drying like some lips stains are either. I hate that. You barely get it on your lips, it dries and then it’s blotchy. Not with this. You can apply it, smooth it around and then let it set and dry.
I was really impressed with the shine Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain has even after it sets and dries. It leaves your lips looking just like you’ve applied a nice coat of lip gloss. As for wear, it’s not very long wearing. But I will say that when the glossy shine wore off, I was still left with nicely light pink tinted lips. And they still even had some shimmer to them.
I know other people are having mixed opinions on these YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stains, but my experience was pretty positive with the Rose Pastelle shade. But that may have been because the color is very light. Maybe my opinion would change with a darker color that is more noticeable when it fades.
All in all, I’m pleased with my YSL Rouge Pur Couture purchase. I will definitely use this glossy stain a lot, especially in the upcoming Spring and Summer months. But I really don’t think I would try any other shades, #18 is it for me. I say give it a try, you just may like it after all.
NYC, New York Color, lip gloss is always a good drugstore option in my opinion. I really like the quality of their lip gloss and the prices are amazing. For just a few bucks, they’ve got great color payoff and the texture is really nice. That goes the same for their newest City Proof Extended Wear line of lip gloss.
NYC City Proof Extended Wear Lipgloss ($3.49) in Blush Forever is a very pretty medium pink color with tiny silver sparkles. It has a really nice fruity fragrance but no taste. I love the way this gloss feels on my lips. Goes on nice and smooth with zero stickiness.
The packaging on these NYC City Proof glosses claims “up to 8hr” wear. I definitely do not get anywhere close to 8hrs with these. After the initial application, the glossiness seems to wear off a bit. But I find that’s true with pretty much any lip gloss. And after eating and drinking, they’re pretty much gone from my lips.
So even though these NYC City Proof lip glosses don’t provide hours upon hours of color and glossiness, they are still way worth the purchase. I think you get a lot of bang for your buck with these. If you’re looking for a cheaper lip gloss alternative, NYC lip glosses with give you great color and shine.
Hard Candy has a new line of Glossy Tinted Lip Balms ($3.00) now available at Wal-Mart. For only 3 bucks a tube, I wasn’t expecting much. But they are glossy and they do provide a bit of color too. Each of these tinted lip balms has a sweet candy type scent but I don’t detect any flavors.
There are eight Hard Candy tinted lip balm colors in the line and each has a different colorful design on the outside of the tube. I chose to purchase the colors Fishnet and Starfish.
In the tube, Fishnet is a bright pink color. The clear cover is printed in a fishnet design with a large pink rose on the front. I was quite disappointed with the color of this one on the lips. It actually only gave my lips a slight hint of pink. I expected a bit more color but was pleased by the amount of shine they provide.
Starfish on the other hand looks very orange in the tube. It has a silver lace design on the outside with dark red and orange flowers. I was expecting it to be maybe a light peach on the lips but that’s not what I got. Surprisingly, Starfish is quite pink on the lips. Weird, but true.
The packaging on these tinted lip balms makes no promise of moisture which is good because they don’t provide my lips with any. Even though they don’t moisturize or soothe the lips, they aren’t drying either.
And speaking of packaging, that’s another negative. I love the look of these but they don’t wind down completely in the tube. They always stick out about 1/2″ which makes them feel flimsy and I keep waiting for it to break off.
As with most lip balms, these Hard Candy ones really don’t have much staying power. Throughout the day I was finding myself reapplying the lip balm every two to three hours. But for the price and the glossiness provided, they’re good to use as a quick bit of color. If you’re looking for more pigmented shades, stick with the darker colored ones.
