You know, at first I was fine with PNC Bank taking over National City when I thought it didn’t mean very much hassle for me. But now, First Niagara has bought 57 National City branches in Western Pa. No big deal right? WRONG!!!!
I’m a little pissy about this today, so I think I’ll rant. Forgive me but I’m tired of being inconvenienced and sold one thing which turns into another.
This turnover is taking place over the Labor Day weekend. Which to me means, accounts will most likely get screwed with and some people will probably not have access to their money over the holiday weekend. Nice. Even though they promise a seamless transition, that’s never the case. I’ll be sure to have plenty of cash available that weekend in case something goes terribly wrong.
Now, the whole reason I chose National City over 10 years ago was because there were plenty of branches around for me to do my banking. My local branch was only a few short minutes away. And the Points bonus system that came years later was a nice little addition. Well now I’ll have NONE of that! No bank branch close, no reward points. So my parting gift for being a loyal customer….drive 30 minutes each way for the nearest First Niagara branch. Awesome! I can’t wait. That’s super convenient especially since hubby gets paid weekly. This transition sounds like a breeze for customers like me.
Oh and did I mention that I just spent over $30.00 on checks a few months ago that won’t be worth crap now? I haven’t even used a one of them. Not one. They’ll be going straight into the garbage.
Sorry First Niagara, I don’t think I’ll be sticking around. There are 4 other banks in my town to choose from that are minutes from my home.

Oh, if only it were that easy. You can change banks but… the new one will disappoint you, also. Banks are not to be trusted. I wish more people were up in arms over the bank situation. Credit Unions – that’s the way to go.

You are so right Yvonne. I know it’s not a simple fix to change banks but the distance is just too inconvenient to overlook. The thing that really bugs me is that there are two closer branches that will not change to First Niagara. If they were, it would have been no big deal. I just wish they would think these things out before they pick and choose which branches to snatch up. Instead they scatter and sprinkle them miles away from each other.
